With Patrick Cleavelin, Backend Development Lead
What inspired your career in tech?
Seeing my dad make shapes move across the screen in Macromedia Flash was when I decided I wanted to be someone who could create something.
When it comes to developing software, what do you think is most important?
I think it is essential, just as with any trade, to constantly hone one's skills by deliberately creating something.
What's one piece of advice you would give to others looking to work in tech?
Create something, anything. Who cares if it already exists? Try doing it for yourself, fail, learn, and try again. Everyone has to start from ground zero, and we all learn by doing.
What's the most rewarding part of your job at ShowSeeker?
Working with a fantastic (and smart) group of fellow developers.
What's your favorite feature or part of Pilot you have worked on?
I'm particularly fond of my work on our SCX import functionality. It was a wonderful learning experience about building tolerant systems.
If you could have any superpower to help you at work, what would it be?
Simultaneously having years of development experience and hands-on industry experience to better bridge the gap between business needs and implementation.
Outside of work, tell us about your passions, hobbies, or just things you enjoy.
It may sound cheesy, but the work I do (creating new things) is my passion. When I'm not working, I'm usually tinkering with multiple personal projects so as not to settle for the skills I currently have.
